Message from the President:
Welcome to the Virginia Society of Otolaryngology! Our society represents the specialty of ear, nose & throat (ENT) surgeons across the Commonwealth. These are exciting times in the practice of medicine, and we are proud of our members’ service in promoting the art, science and politics of health issues affecting the patients of Virginia.
For the practicing otolaryngologist, the Virginia Society of Otolaryngology is the primary organization representing your interests in the state legislature. To that end, we now have a legislative aid to help coordinate our efforts with your state representatives. Our Board of Governors representatives also help keep us up to date with issues affecting us nationally, as well as locally.
Your individual involvement with your local legislators is also a critical part of educating and influencing them in promoting the health of our state’s residents and strengthening our practices. One of our former presidents, Caleb “Chip” Massey, M.D., is credited with helping to break the impasse of the tobacco lobby through his personal conversations with his local legislator, swaying interests that allowed passage of the Va Indoor Clean Air Act. Continuing issues remain in Virginia’s malpractice cap, Medicare and Medicaid physician payment cuts, and encroachment by others on your profession.
Please get yourself and fellow otolaryngologists involved in our Virginia Society of Otolaryngology! Annual meeting, news, membership renewals are all available right at your fingertips. Our next meeting is planned for April 30 – May 1, 2010 in Charlottesville, Va.
As your president, I am honored to represent you and remain available to help in any way. Please do not hesitate to contact me or other board members through Ms. Jane Davis, Society Manager at (804) 622-8135 or via web contact at left.
